Content is king. You might have heard that before. For all the constant changes in marketing, content marketing remains, well, king. Providing valuable content is non-negotiable for building trust, community, and authority, whether you’re a startup or international powerhouse (or, y’know, one of the millions of medium-sized businesses that fall in between).

According to Hubspot, content marketing is the best way to “attract prospects and customers to your website ” organically. Your audience agrees: 70% of users prefer to learn about your products and services through content they seek out, not with ads that are served to them.

There’s a time and place for “the next big thing,” especially for nimble brands. But for a tried-and-true content marketing method that works best for just about everyone? Website blogs are hard to beat.

So how do you level up your blog content into a turbocharged, lead-generating machine? By following these six steps.

  1. Be Relevant: Blog content must provide value. You do that by recognizing customer pain points and providing helpful solutions. Be relevant. Be real. Don’t assume “Product XYZ” or “Service ABC” is great and everyone will understand that. Give your audience a reason. What problem are you solving? What opportunity are you providing?
  2. Quality > Quantity: “I love wading through a bazillion brand emails everyday,” said no customer ever. Don’t make clingy content. Space your stuff out. Your customers will appreciate it when you slowly roll out valuable, relevant content. Valuable content takes time, so allow it, instead of publishing something no one will read.
  3. Seamless Signups: Does your target audience enjoy your content? Nice, that’s the tough part (and why you should contact us to help you with it). Now that you have brand fans, make it easy for them to subscribe to your new content. Making your email signup process as seamless as possible benefits your audience, and you.
  4. Master the Art of Linking: Want to know why Wikipedia always ranks high for just about everything? Linking. You don’t have to be the next Wikipedia (though that’d be awesome if you were), but leveraging the power of linking keeps readers engaged on your website. Here are tips:
    1. Internal linking: Use keywords and link them to relevant blogs on your website that explain the topic in more depth. This keeps readers with you.
    2. External linking: Refer users to outside blogs/sites to increase your brand’s credibility. It shows users (and search engines) your priority is providing value. If you’re using external links, make sure you link to a credible website. It helps your website receive quality backlinks, which improves your website domain authority.
  5. Check Tonality: Your blog’s voice and tone depends on your audience. However, most businesses today don’t want to talk “like a business.” They want to keep their tone conversational and personalized. But there is a balance. Be approachable, not ambivalent. Be friendly, not flippant. Don’t sound stuffy and uptight, but don’t sound like a “Try Hard” either.
  6. Repurpose Blogs: Think of ways your blog can be repurposed. Graphics on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Videos published on YouTube, IGTV, and Vimeo. Summaries that can be emailed to subscribers. Not only do these drive users to your site, they keeps your platforms fresh and active. And all without investing any extra effort towards producing different content.
    1. What about video?

      While blogs are still the big dog in the content yard, video is the scrappy Chihuahua that can’t be ignored. Video content experienced an upsurge from 2017 to 2019, and continues to grow. Video is here to stay, but it can take a lot of resources to do it right. Not as much as you might think, but still more than a blog. If you believe you have the resources to create and sustain quality video content, go for it. Video could be a blockbuster for your business.
